Some patients have the feedback that the prosthetic feet become a little bit harder, their use experience are not as good as before. Here, MEDI-REHATEK will explain in detail the relationship between body weight and prosthetic limbs. Each prosthesis is limited in a range of bearing load, if body weight is higher than the load-bearing range of prosthesis, that is likely to cause damage to the prosthesis.
If the body weight is much lower than the load-bearing range of prosthesis,it will show that the prosthetic feet is more rigid and other phenomena. Prosthetic technician proposes that the weight of fit prosthesis is more than prosthetic limit of about 20 kg.Because the user's weight must not be higher than the load-bearing limit of prosthesis. Then the patient's weight must be lower than the prosthesis weight limit. But that is no good that the weight difference is too much or too little.A scientific and reasonable degree is best for prosthetic patients.
For the prosthesis feet, the weight is not a major factor in determining the prosthetic comfort. Because each below-knee prosthesis has different design and force site, that is suitable for different user also.
Such as some comfortable below-knee prostheses feet,
as long as the patient's weight doesn’t go beyond the maximum load-bearing range of prosthetic feet, regardless of how much difference the patient's weight is from maximum load-wearing weight bearing. It will not affect the wearing comfort, because it is designed for patients with below-knee prostheses, who feel very comfortable.
But some energy storage feet are different,
the prosthetic feet will be compressed when the patient’s feet will give it an appropriate weight during walking, the prosthetic feet will produce a reaction force to allow patients to walk more easily. The greater the weight the greater the reaction force. But the greater the weight is, the more the reaction force is. Too heavy weight easily makes the prosthesis damage, so this time we must very seriously consider whether the standard of the patient's body weight fits the prosthesis.
