Preparation before wearing above-knee prosthesis II

MEDI-REHATEK will introduce Preparation before wearing above-knee prosthesis Part II.

2.Exercise
Patient should carry out the stump exercises under the guidance of the therapists in order to maintain or increase muscle strength and flexibility.

Take elastic bandage off during exercise, maintain a normal breathing, which is very important at the time of exercise.

(1) Hip flexion:

Lift the stumps towards the chest, keep the healthy limb be flat on the bed.
Holding the stump to be close to the chest.Patient have the normal breath for five times, then take a rest. Repeat the exercise.

(2)Hip extension:

First of all, both legs bend over chest. Hands hold the legs firmly in order to bend over the chest, and the side of stump keeps flat and presses towards bed. Maintain this position and have normal breath for five times then have a rest. Repeat exercise.

(3) Isotonic hip stretch:

Place a small towel roll under the stump, press the towel down until hip doesnt touch the surface of bed. Maintain this position and exhale and inhale air for five times, then rest. Repeat the exercise.



(4) Isotonic hip abduction - adduction:

Place a small towel roll in the middle of the thigh,a type with width of at least two inches ties the legs together. Try to move the legs apart, to maintain this position and exhale and inhale air for five times

Both legs squeeze the towel, holding this position for five times, then have a rest. Repeat this exercise again.



(5)  External extension and outreach of  hip joint:

Place a small towel roll between the two legs. Let the stump move outwards as far as possible, then let the stump back and squeeze the towel roll. Repeat the action for 5 times. Then have a rest.
