Advantage of thigh prosthesis socket with ischial containment

Scientific research found that the vast majority of patients wearing thighprosthesis with ischial containment socket stand up, the stump of the femur always moves outwardly. Biomechanical Theory and prosthesis assembly experience show that the femur adduction in the prosthetic socket, that has a very important significance for amputees while walking to reduce energy consumption.

Therefore, the design of new socket makes sure the adduction of the femur. It is also found that the ischial support point of rotation doesnt coincide with hip rotation point in thigh prosthesis with ischial containment socketthe stump occupies a lot of space inside and outside of socketmost are muscles and soft tissues

So the socket will move outwards and inwards under thehorizontal force, the new socket has to avoid this happening. Based on the two cases, it is designed to have a longitudinal ellipse socket has large width in the longitudinal direction and little width in the horizontal direction.

It not only has support from the ischial plane, but also contains and supports it the ischial in the side.

To better understand the longitudinal ellipse Medi-Rehatek socket,we summarize its main advantages as follows:

(1)longitudinal ellipse socket contains the ischial bone around the inside and rear side, the stump can avoid moving inside and outside.

(2) There is no obvious ischial support plane in socket, that avoids thefull load on ischial tuberosity.

(3) There will be no pressure on blood vessels and nerves of femoral triangle.

(4) It is more in line with the requirements of biomechanics, alleviatesthe squeezextent of residual limb, reduces the stump to shrink.

(5) The stumps is full contact with the socket. It reduces the pressure onunit area of the residual limb.

(6) Soft tissue is more in line with the hydrostatic law.

(7) It has obviously external devices and the femur can have adduction.

(8) The prosthetic socket can be flexible, it can also be rigid, but theportion bears load that must be relatively strong.
